Short Note: And that is it for this week’s translations! Hope you can all be safe and have some fun this weekend. Enjoy!
Yesterday, various readings and walks through the neighborhood. Today I have lunch with Jorge Arriagada and Valeria. I had an idea for The Dead Bruges. A sort of inversion of the narrative system of Vertigo by Hitchcock; in the story of the novel a widow in love travels through Bruges, sentimental wandering. Little by little he decides that his dead wife is “reincarnated” in the city. Bruges is his dead wife. So that, when he finds her double, he doesn’t doubt for an instant that she is the dead that Bruges invents to thank him for his fidelity. As he’s a devotee of the Virgin Mary, he can believe that even the Virgin has taken the form of his wife. But sometimes the substitute abruptly appears and he sees her as vulgar and criminal as she is. There’s a case betwen the famous cases of impersonation (Martin Guerre and others) in which the one impersonating doesn’t look at all to the impersonated.
18.50 hrs. We had lunch with Jorge Arriagada, then we went to the cinema to see The Jacket. A piece of shit. We walked out before the end. We returned home. I spoke with Emilio and we agreed to listen next Monday his interpretation of Leng’s sonata. We’ll record it as soon as possible.
